So you want to...have a family valentine's
Valentine's doesn't have to be all about big gestures and expensive gifts- our lovely friends at Oliver's Boutique and Rowdy And Fancy's Chocolate have come up with some great ideas to bring the love into your life.
Laura, from Oliver's Boutique, shares this gorgeous Valentine's Craft card with us! Here's what she had to say...
"Here at Olivier’s Boutique we love to make things- it’s not just baby and toddler clothing we love to make! This card is quick, easy, and a great craft to get the kids involved in. You can personalise it for that special someone in your life and even get the baby involved by using their feet as the template!
I love this card as it captures how small they are, so you can keep for ever. It’s easy to store and makes it perfect for a memory box."
You will need:
3 coloured pieces of card, 2 for the hands and one for the concertina.
1 pink or red piece of felt (or can place picture of your child cut in a heart shape)
Thick permanent marker
- Trace child’s hand or foot
Cut around the handprint outline
Taking another piece of coloured card measure 12 x 1 ½” measures across the card, Cut this into a strip of card
Fold the 1 ½” x 12” strip into a concertina fold giving you 10 folds approximately 1 ¼” each fold.
Cut out the felt in to a heart shape, or cut out a picture of you child, you could even use a picture of them as a baby on one hand and recent picture now on the other hand.
On each of the folds write a letter, this should read; THIS MUCH
Write on the hand; I (place the felt heart or picture) then write YOU underneath
Once you have everything cut it will be really easy to assemble
Using glue adhere everything down.
"Now it’s your turn to make and have fun," Says Laura. "We would love to see your creations on our facebook @oliviersboutique1 or instagram:OliviersBoutique."

"Valentines can be a tricky and expensive occasion with a lot of pressure on doing something special… We don’t think this is fair or right!" Say the lovely Chocolate makers at Rowdy and Fancy's." This Valentine’s day we are making a stand and we invite you to stand with us: Stay in, get cosy, eat some cook dinner together. We will be eating a whole bar (yes a whole bar) of our gorgeous new Chocolate Love and we may even share: it is Valentine’s Day, after all."
"To help you out for your romantic evening, we have attached a recipe for a divine chocolate curry to spice up your dinner time."
Chocolate and aubergine Chana Masala!
1 red onion
1 clove of garlic, minced
1 large aubergine
1 400g can of chickpeas
1 400g can of chopped tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato puree
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp garam masala 1 tsp ground coriander
3 good pinches of salt
1 good pinch of freshly ground black pepper
6-8 squares of Rowdy and Fancy’s
Lime Chilli chocolate
- Gently heat the oil in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Finely chop the onion and add to the pan with the minced garlic, ground coriander and garam masala.
- Once the onions are softened, dice the aubergine and mix into the onions with the tomato puree. Add the chopped tomatoes and simmer on a low heat for 20 mins. (you may need to add some water if its gets too dry)
- Drain and rinse the chickpeas before adding them to the pan and simmer for another 5 mins. Add salt and pepper to taste. Now it’s time for the chocolate! I used 8 squares in the end but I would start with 4 and keep mixing and tasting till it is right for you.
- I found that the mild heat of the chocolate was enough spice for me but you could always add some fresh chilli in with the onions to give it that extra kick.
"This is very rich, so serve with rice, chapatti or as a side dish. Happy Cooking!"
